A terrorist was killed on Wednesday afternoon when members of his gang attempted to rob and kidnap commuters along Sabuwa – Mararabar Yakawada Road, in the Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that no fewer than 30 terrorists, who stormed the road around 2.45pm, were about to commence operation when a police team from the council swooped on them.
It was learnt that the encounter led to a fierce gun duel between the police team and the terrorists.
In the process, one of the suspects was killed as the police confirmed the recovery of one AK 47 rifle and four motorcycles.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development on Thursday.
He said, “On September 14, 2022, around 2.45pm, a distress call was received that terrorists numbering 30, on motorcycles, armed with AK 47 rifles, blocked Sabuwa – Mararabar Yakawada road, Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State, with the intent to commit armed robbery and kidnapping.
“On receipt of the report, DPO Sabuwa Division led tactical unit to the area and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. The team successfully repelled the terrorists from their heinous mission.
“In the course of scanning the scene, a terrorist was neutralised, one AK 47 rifle and four of their operational motorcycles were recovered. It is feared that many terrorists were neutralised or escaped the scene with gun shots wounds. The investigation is ongoing.”
