State by state COVID-19 case numbers, deaths; NSW records 17,229 new COVID-19 cases this week, 115 deaths

Australian states and territories are today releasing their first weekly updates for COVID-19 data around the country.

There have been no daily reports issued this week, in stark contrast to the past two years and more.

The new regimen was established following a meeting between health ministers earlier this month, and they said it was backed by health officials.

Here’s how the states and territories fared this week. This article will be progressively updated as more data is published.

Australia’s most populous state recorded 17,229 new COVID-19 cases this week, and 115 deaths.

NSW Health noted that not all the deaths reported this week may have occurred this week.

As at 4pm on Thursday, September 15, there were 1290 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 29 in intensive care.

Last Friday, there were 1503 people with COVID-19 in NSW hospitals, showing a significant drop.
