Stranger Things’ David Harbor Joins Video Game Adaptation | movies | entertainment

David Harbor has made the transition from TV actor to movie star over the past two years. He is, of course, best known for playing Jim Hopper in the Netflix horror/adventure movie Stranger Things. But with that ending in 2024, it’s moving to the silver screen.

Most recently, Harbor played a major role in the Marvel movie Black Widow, playing Russia’s answer to Captain America, The Red Guardian; A role that will return to him in the upcoming movie Thunderbolts. And earlier this week, it was revealed that he will be starring in a festive horror movie called Violent Night.

The latest news from Hollywood has revealed that actor Jim Hopper will be joining the PlayStation world in a movie adaptation of one of their biggest ever franchises: Gran Turismo.

For those who aren’t in the know, Gran Turismo is a racing game that has been a staple in the PlayStation family since the first console was released in 1994. To date, the video game has sold over 80 million copies worldwide.

Over the past three decades, Sony Interactive has released seven Gran Turismo games across five different PlayStation platforms. The most recent one was Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in March.

However, Harbor’s version of the video game will be completely different. Rather than transcribing the game into a live-action movie, it is based in part on a true story about the video game.

The synopsis of Gran Turismo reads: “Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish-fulfilling tale of the ‘Gran Turismo’ teenage player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional race car driver.”

Gran Turismo will be directed by South African-Canadian director Neil Blomkamp. He is best known for running “District 9”, “Elysium” and “Chappie”.

The film “The Petroleum Chief” is written by Jason Hall and Zack Palin. Hall is best known for authoring the 2014 Academy Award nominee “American Sniper”.

Meanwhile, Palin wrote the Oscar-winning Will Smith film King Richard.

Hall and Baylin will be joined by Asad Qizilbash from PlayStation Productions and Carter Swann. The former commented on adapting the game into a movie franchise.

“As one of PlayStation’s longest-running and most iconic franchises, it is great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures once again to bring Gran Turismo to life in such an exciting way,” Qizilbash said. “We can’t wait for fans to see Neil see this coming. An inspiring true story of a player turned professional racing car driver.” .

Given that Blomkamp has a distinctive and action-packed style in his films, it will certainly be interesting to see how Gran Turismo will appear. But he wouldn’t do it without supervision.

From behind him, he will get help from PlayStation Productions. The Sony-owned production company has steadily launched its video game properties in live action format over the past year.

Recently, they released the groundbreaking movie Uncharted. It starred Spider-Man actor Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

Uncharted was a relative success, despite receiving average reviews from critics. He has earned over $400 million at the box office on a budget of just $120 million.

In the coming years, PlayStation Productions is set to release film adaptations for other video games, including the zombie thriller Days Gone, the Japanese fantasy adventure Gravity Rush, and the animated adventure Jak and Daxter.

Gran Turismo is set to hit cinemas on August 11, 2023.
