Tyreek Hill may not be in Kansas City anymore, but he’s still hopping around to watch Patrick Mahomes throw touchdown passes for the Chiefs.
It goes without saying – or at least that should – But Patrick Mahomes is very good at football.
At this point, Mahomes for football seems to be what Prince used to pop; It just makes a difficult task like being an NFL quarterback seem easy. And both, despite their greatness, were taken for granted just as quickly as they rose to the peak of popularity.
After throwing five touchdowns in the first week, the man who was ranked eighth in the league kept reminding us of how stupid it is to consider him less than the best.
The first was a scramble that kept a dead play alive that ended with a side-arms touchdown throw, and it was Mahomes’ textbook.
The second is 50 yards off a dime for Justin Watson and is the kind of throw that always ends in some kind of toppling but with Mahomes a pass was ideally placed for a hit.
Watching Mahomes do what he can do in real time is good enough, but going back and looking at these kinds of touchdown throws somehow makes it all the more impressive.
As J.A. Adande pointed out, Mahomes fired the 50-yard landing pass and without even planting his feet:
Among those who admired the Mahomes was someone who used to sit in the front row for his greatness.
Mahomes has done so many crazy things so often that it would be second nature to be expected. We’ve become insensitive to his grandeur, but Hill’s reaction is perfection. It is someone who has seen this greatness firsthand, often at the receiving end of it, and lets the greatness speak for itself. He’s not much surprised that he admits that’s how Mahomes operate – like Prince, at a much higher level of existence than anyone else does.
It’s also nice to know that Hill keeps an eye on his ex-teammate and is still ready to show his love for him even though they’re wearing a different uniform now on Sunday.
