Morgan Freeman in Advanced Talks to Star in ‘Lucy’ Spinoff Series




EuropaCorp and Village Roadshow have teamed up to develop and produce a spin-off based on “Lucy,” the hit action movie starring Scarlett Johansson. Morgan Freeman in advanced negotiations to star in the series, plot details that are still kept secret.

The film, directed by Luc Besson, grossed over $460 million worldwide at the box office, ranking as the highest-grossing French film ever made. Freeman was part of the original film crew, which saw Johansson portray a woman who gains psychomotor skills when medication is absorbed into her bloodstream. Freeman is expected to reprise his role as Professor Wise Norman in the spin-off series.

Both EuropaCorp and Village Roadshow are owned by New York’s Vine Alternative Investments Fund. The series is Europa Corp’s second project to receive the green light since Vine acquired the company in 2019. Besson recently wrapped filming for “DogMan,” starring Caleb Landry Jones, who won Best Actor at Cannes last year for “Nitram.” “DogMan” tells the story of a life-bruised boy who grows to find his salvation through the love of his dogs. Bison wrote “DogMan” and produces via his logo the LBP.

Upon completion of its restructuring with Vine, EuropaCorp, which Besson founded, set out to pursue films and series based on its well-known franchises, such as “Lucy” and “Transporter,” as well as original films.

Freeman recently starred in the action movie “Paradise Highway” directed by Anna Gutto along with Juliette Binoche and Frank Grillo.
