Ionia County faces a daunting challenge that many rural communities face: providing affordable housing, a vibrant community that also provides a “small town” feel. Habitat for Humanity for Ionia County provides affordable housing in hopes of rebuilding our community and building a stronger Ionia County.
Michele Makley, PFCU President/CEO, is on the Ionia Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors and is delighted that the employees have chosen a charitable recipient that she is so passionate about. “It was an easy decision to want to serve on the Habitat Board. Habitat provides a “Hand up, not a hand up.” Macley said. She continued, “Habitat helps where there is need, which also aligns with the credit union’s philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to live, and Habitat helps provide that home at the same time. “
PFCU employees have the option of wearing jeans and sneakers throughout the year for a small donation that is automatically deducted from their paycheck. The money collected accumulates and each quarter the employees choose a charity to donate to. In the fourth quarter of 2022, employees raised $8,006.00.
