In a new preview for Avengers #65 by Jason Aaron, Javier Garron, David Curiel, and VC’s Cory Petit from Marvel Comics, readers learn of the origins of the Avenger Prime, Loki. The variant of the God of Tricksters, previously teased as the most powerful Avenger ever who helped assemble the Multiversal Avengers to fight the Council of Red, is revealed to have a dark past. On his Earth, Thor’s death led him to take the throne of Asgard, where a sense of emptiness led Loki to council with other Lokis from across the Multiverse. However, he quickly learned a constant across the universe: Loki couldn’t be trusted, realizing he was an anomaly in the Multiverse as the All-Father of Asgard.

Seeing how untrusting his variants would become and how he was an anomaly as All-Father in the Multiverse, Loki went on a different path than his counterparts. The Avenger Prime would become the most important Avenger in the Multiverse, dedicating his life to guarding the watchtower at the God Quarry. As such, he assembled one of the greatest Avengers teams from across different realities to defend the highly volatile heart of creation and helped prepare for the greatest battle for the Multiverse.

The tease for Avengers #65 from Marvel Comics hints at more details of the Avenger Prime’s origin being revealed – as his rise from Thor’s death into the greatest Avenger of all time will be showcased. It also hints at the fight ahead Loki leads between the Multiversal Avengers and the Doctor Dooms, who have arrived at the battlefield in aid of the Council of Red.

While Loki is one of the last heroes readers might think would become the Avenger Prime and the greatest hero in the Multiverse, Thor’s death and his unique origin led him to diverge from his usual path, changing him into the Multiverse’s ultimate protector. Loki’s Avenger Prime’s origin will be revealed as the greatest fight across space and time continues in Avengers #65 by Marvel Comics, which arrives in comic book stores on Wednesday.
