Austin mom Heidi Broussard murdered: Woman sentenced to 55 years in prison for killing her friend and taking her baby in 2019

Austin, Texas – A Texas woman accused of murdering a close friend in 2019 who had just given birth and kidnapping her as part of an elaborate scheme to pass the infant off as guilty of the murders Thursday, prosecutors said.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza announced in a statement that Magen Firamosca, 37, has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for the murder of Heidi Broussard, 33. Fieramusca waived her right to appeal.

The conviction follows a crime in Austin that began with the disappearance of a 3-week-old baby and has followed increased interest as the investigation opened and police focused on Fieramusca. Police say the child was later found alive at a Houston-area home with Broussard’s body in the trunk of Fieramosca’s car.

According to an arrest affidavit at the time, Fieramusca kidnapped Broussard on December 12, 2019, and put her in a black duffel jacket. Broussard was last seen dropping an older kid at an elementary school in Austin. Her death was ruled by strangulation.

The baby, Margot Carey, was returned to her father.

“We hope that this finding will bring some closure to the Broussard and Kerry families and help them continue their healing process,” Garza said.

Fieramosca and Broussard were friends who had met about a decade earlier at a church camp, according to court records. At one point Fieramusca had the key to Broussard’s apartment, and the women discussed pregnancy together, even considering they might give birth on the same day, according to the court record.

Brossard’s fiancé told investigators that she told him on December 8 or 9 that Fieramosca had given birth to a baby girl, but that he had not seen any photos of the baby. Fieramosca told a Texas Ranger that she went to the beach with her cousin the day Broussard was kidnapped. But she later told the same officer that she had given birth that day, though she was unable to provide details of her birth, according to the affidavit.
