There’s a lot of excitement and intrigue surrounding the future of the DC Universe, especially now that DC Studios co-executives James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced their plans to take over the franchise. One of the biggest questions has been exactly which actors from the existing big screen slate will stay in their roles, especially as the saga recasts some characters and sticks with others. Gal Gadot’s take on Diana Prince/Wonder Woman is among the pictures whose future remains unclear, especially now that Patty Jenkins’ iteration of Wonder Woman 3 isn’t moving forward. Jean and Safran recently teased that the door is open for Gadot to continue appearing in the franchise — but if not, the newly announced Paradise Lost The series could be the perfect way to explain her rehash.
What is it Paradise Lost Around?
The HBO Max-exclusive series is described as a game of thrones– A Wonder Woman-style take on the house of Themyscira, who will delve into the politics and relationships of her all-female community.
“This is the game of thrones– A story of sorts about the setting of Paradise Island, the home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman. Women. It’s an origin story, how did this woman grow up in society? what does that mean? What are their policies like? What are their rules? who is in Charge? What are all the games they play with each other to get to the top? I think it’s a really exciting thing.”

It’s not clear at this point exactly how wide the time period will be Paradise Lost It will cover – whether to delve into the very early history of the Amazons’ relationship with the ancient gods, the generation of heroines like Hippolyta that preceded Diana, or a combination of the two. But regardless, the concept of Paradise Lost allows for more of Themyscira’s lore to be explored. In particular, it certainly couldn’t be outside the realm of possibility for the show to deal with the bizarre and conflicted nature of how Amazon babies are born. While early comics established that Diana was born when Hippolyta was literally sculpted from clay, the New 52 briefly reinstated that she was born from a relationship between Hippolyta and Zeus. The details of this have mainly been debated since, with many fans leaning more towards the clay origin, while Jenkins Wonder Woman The movies went the other way and she established a relationship with Zeus.
if she wants, Paradise Lost He could easily lean into the fantastical nature of the terracotta’s origins, and explain why they’re such an important part of Amazonian mythology. That could easily, down the line, provide an opportunity to show Hippolyta making Diana out of clay – a moment that will no doubt be poignant, for comics fans and viewers of the show alike. Literally molding Diana out of clay would also explain narratively why, nowadays, her face looks a little different than what we came up with with Gadot.
