Super Bowl 2023 just prompted HBO to change the release date of The Last of Us Episode 5. So, if you’re planning to see clickers and other Kansas City injured tears, there’s no need to wait until Sunday.
Announced on the Sunday when the fourth episode was on the air, The Last of Us episode 5 will arrive on HBO Max this Friday (February 10) at 9pm ET / 6pm PT — 48 hours earlier than scheduled. As of this moment, the HBO Networks linear schedule on HBO.com does not appear to be showing that episode at that time. This may change, but now it looks like you’ll need HBO Max to watch the episode at the earliest.
Crave in Canada may get TLOU Episode 5 at that time, while those in the UK may have to wait, Radio Times (Opens in a new tab) stating that there is no news of an earlier broadcast time. No word on whether Binge in Australia will be getting the episodes early, either. Normally, as was the case with The Last of Us Episode IV, episodes arrive on Mondays (given how time zones work), not Sundays.
The Last of Us Episode 5 will be the first episode to air that HBO Max hasn’t offered to review The Last of Us from Tom’s Guide. So far, every episode has changed things either slightly or significantly, and mostly for the better.
For example, the third episode of The Last of Us changed the story of Bill and Frank and ended up becoming one of the best episodes of TV in months. This ensured that The Last of Us was one of the best HBO Max shows overall – not just one of the best video game adaptations ever.

But to explain one of the details shown in this trailer, we need to go over something spoilerthough it’s something The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann has made clear in interviews.
This trailer, if you look closely, shows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) appearing to be moving in with Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Kevon Woodard). As hinted at in the subtitles in the trailer, and explained in the interview embedded below, Sam is now, unlike in the game, a deaf character.
Druckmann said Washington Post (Opens in a new tab) that “one of the changes we made to the TV show was that we made Sam deaf…and that kind of limitation has led to really interesting storytelling decisions that, in some ways, make this sequence more impactful than it is in the game.” “
We can only imagine that not being able to speak would make things more difficult when dodging the infected.
