MLB The Show will host 23 Tech Tests on February 15, according to a recent announcement in PlayStation Blog. San Diego Studios also revealed details about a Collector’s Edition of the game (called the Captain’s Edition), as well as a Digital Deluxe Edition that will be released on the PS Store.
The technical test will begin at 10 AM PST on February 15th and will last for about a week until February 21st, also at 10 AM PST. The test will be available to all players in the US and Canada on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (no registration required). The testing is primarily focused on stress testing servers, online matchmaking, cross-platform play, online co-op, anything internet related as well as getting feedback on gameplay.
As for the Collector’s Edition, it will be packaged in a limited edition steelbook with Yankees legend Derek Jeter on the cover, and will cost $99.99 / $129.99 CAD. The release will include both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the base game, 4 days of early access, daily double login bonuses for MLB The Show 23 Lifecycle, as well as a variety of selection packs and 10,000 coins (virtual currency).
What’s more, there is a New Era MLB The Show 9FIFTY cover that will be available in limited quantities, so players are encouraged to order quickly when pre-orders open February 6th.
The only difference between this edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition is the lack of the steelbook and limited edition cover, but everything else is there. One small difference is that the Digital Deluxe has 30,000 game seeds, while the Captain’s Edition only has 10,000, possibly to make up for the lack of other physical stuff. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $99.99 USD / $129.99 CAD.
One final note to avoid any confusion. The Captain Edition of MLB The Show 23 comes with the PS4 disc and PS5 coupon code. Even after redeeming a PS5 code, the PS4 disc will still need to be inserted into the PS5 to run the game, as it were The case with previous editions. Also, the physical Standard Edition of MLB The Show 23 is not upgradeable, unlike the digital version of the Standard Edition, which can be upgraded for $10 on PlayStation or Xbox.
