Des Moines, Iowa Someone in Washington State beat out huge odds Monday night to win The jackpot is $754 millionthe The game site says.
The winning numbers were 05, 11, 22, 23, 69 and Powerball 07.
This was the first Powerball jackpot win since November 19, 2022, in the 34th draw since then.
This winless streak enabled the jackpot to grow bigger and bigger until it ranked as the 5th largest Powerball jackpot and the 9th largest US lottery jackpot of all time.
Monday’s $754 million grand prize is for the winner who chooses an annual stipend to be paid out over the next 29 years. Higher interest rates made it possible to increase annuity payments compared to previous awards, when rates were lower.
But most winners favor cash, which came in at $407 million for Monday night’s drawing.
The game’s frightening odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to build big jackpots that attract more players. This strategy has definitely worked lately, eg Someone in Maine won a $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot in january and a A California player made a record $2.04 billion playing Powerball last November. No one has claimed any of these awards.
Powerball tickets are $2 per game. It is sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
