Aston Villa are now sweating over the fitness of Matty Cash after the defender suffered an injury whilst representing Poland. He sustained the blow early on in a Euro 2024 qualifier.
That is according to Sport.PL, which reports that Cash pulled a muscle in his calf against the Czech Republic. The issue forced the 25-year-old off after nine minutes of his country’s 3-1 defeat on Friday. It is also likely to keep him from playing against Albania next Monday.
Cash felt the injury in his calf seven minutes into Poland’s opening Euro 2024 qualifier and signalled for a substitution. Robert Gumny soon replaced the Aston Villa dynamo, who was making his 12th appearance for the Bialo-Czerwoni. And Poland’s early verdict is not great.

Poland sent Cash for examinations straight after the Aston Villa star suffered an injury. The tests revealed he pulled a muscle in his calf and is now practically excluded from Monday’s meeting with Albania. It is still unclear what long-term impact the issue will cause, though.
The Czech Republic had already opened a 2-0 lead in their 3-1 win over Poland whilst Cash was on the field. Ladislav Krejci (1’) and Tomas Cvancara (3’) opened the scoring early on in Prague. Cash did not cover himself in glory as David Jurasek crossed into Cvancara, either.

So, Aston Villa are now sweating over the severity of Cash’s injury after he pulled a muscle in his calf representing Poland. The £80k-a-week star had displaced Ashley Young to return to the starting right-back position at Villa Park under Unai Emery over their recent fixtures.
Cash, who Tim Sherwood has called ‘outstanding’, started in Aston Villa’s past five Premier League matches before the international break. The Slough-born star also penned his first assist of the season during that run against Arsenal. He fed Ollie Watkins in the 4-2 defeat.
Aston Villa also won three of their last four Premier League games before the international break with Cash starting. The £16m former Nottingham Forest dynamo had only started in one top-flight game following the World Cup before he opened the action against Arsenal.
