Amr Kotb, 38, is charged with abandoning a child with intent to return, deputies said.
On March 16, deputies said they responded to Costco located at the 26000 block of Northwest Interstate about a welfare check after receiving reports of a child left unattended in a locked car.
Upon the deputies’ arrival, witnesses said the one-year-old girl’s father, named Kotb, returned to the car, took the baby from the back seat and placed her on his lap in the driver’s seat before taking off.
Costco employees were able to give authorities video surveillance that captured a pole puller out of work at 2:38 p.m., Pct. 4 said. The deputies said he was then seen entering the store with his wife and two other children.
At 3:40 p.m., deputies said a witness pulled up next to the car and noticed the child asleep unattended inside the car.
During the investigation, Pct. No. 4 said someone saw Kotb returning with the year-old to pick up his wife and two other children.
According to the deputies, he was arrested and admitted to the Harris County Jail.
The swivel bond was set at $1,000, and the baby was released to its mother in “good health,” a percentage. 4 said.
