Domestic violence: Probation lifted, bail increased to $1 million for Galveston man accused of dousing his wife with gasoline

Galveston, Texas (KTRK) – A judge has canceled probation and increased bail for a Galveston man accused of dousing his wife with gasoline, according to records.

On Tuesday, Gino Jett Weidman Sosa appeared before District Court Judge Jared Robinson, who granted a motion to vacate his three-year probation for a previous spousal abuse conviction. Court documents also show that a new $1 million bond has been set for the ongoing domestic violence charge.

On February 23, Robinson agreed to a three-year probation plea deal after Weidman-Sosa pleaded guilty to strangling his wife, Felicity Varney, on December 29. Part of that deal included a no-contact order with Varney and her 5-year-old son.

Weedman-Sosa reportedly breached that deal when he messaged Varney on Facebook.

On March 18, at a hotel on Varney’s birthday, the two argue after leaving the bar together. From there, Weidmann-Sosa allegedly poured gasoline on her and soaked everything she owned.

“He hit me and hit and somehow got off my clothes,” Varney told ABC13 on Monday. “I can’t remember. Gasoline poured all over my face, and everything was burnt. My eyes were burned. I couldn’t open my eyes.”

Varney added that she tried to divorce Weidmann Sosa in 2022, but did not obtain the required papers.

Now she has a warning for other women who are tempted to reunite with her abuser.

She said, “Don’t come back.” “Don’t turn back because they won’t stop. They will keep moving forward and keep doing it. If you keep eating and letting it happen, it will never end. You will end up six feet under.”
