Dragon Ball Creator breaks the silence in Sand Land

Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama Sand land It is getting a feature film from a CG anime adaptation, and now Toriyama himself is breaking the silence about what the project is and how it was created. When the official Sand Land account posted on Twitter, it revealed this Sand land It’s going to be a movie — and with it came some words from Toriyama himself (trans Hermes 98):

“after dragon ball I finished, tried many short works and one shots, then tried to put everything I had into drawing what I thought would be my final work. “This was Sandland,” Toriyama said in a statement. “Thinking about it now, I’m amazed that I could draw a weekly serial myself without any assistant, if only for one comic volume.”

“I drew this putting my likes on top, so anyone who says they’re enjoying this is a super fan who’s really obsessed with me! Something like that, I guess.” Toriyama said. “The pictures I’ve seen still have many unfinished parts, but I never expected to get a visual edit after more than 20 years, so this kind of quality is like a dream come true.”

In the distant future, war has ravaged the entire land, leaving only a wasteland where a greedy King controls the water supply. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao seeks help from the Demon King…and gets the King’s son, Beelzebub, and his thief-assistant. The unlikely trio cruises together across the desert, facing dragons, bandits, and the deadliest enemies of all…the King’s own army! It’s a travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball Z!

Sand land It will hit theaters in Japan on August 18th.
