Shaka Hislop says Tottenham Hotspur fans need to persuade Daniel Levy to do ‘everything’ he can to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager.
The former Premier League goalkeeper added that Julian Nagelsmann is a ‘great fit’ for Tottenham Hotspur – there is talk that Daniel Levy is set to make a decision on Harry Kane’s future.
Prior to Bayern Munich sacking Nagelsmann, the talk around Hotspur Way from supporters was that they wanted the return of Mauricio Pochettino.
Fast forward to the present and all of that is now changing because of Bayern’s surprising actions which now see ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel taking to the hot seat in Munich.
That’s probably worked in Tottenham’s favour because they now have a chance to bring in a manager like Nagelsmann, who many feel is the ‘perfect’ fit for the Champions League-chasing side.
Nonetheless, with the likelihood that Conte will be booted out, former West Ham and Portsmouth keeper Hislop shared his thoughts on Nagelsmann taking to the Tottenham dugout, as he told ESPN.
“I totally agree that Naglesmann is a great fit,” said Hislop. “If you can figure that out, then it’s better for Spurs.
“If I am a Spurs fan, then I am doing everything I can to persuade Daniel Levy to do as much. Spurs are in a race for the top four right now.
“Let’s assume that Conte leaves, you bring Ryan Mason in to bring it through until the end of the season, then you are flirting with a top-four position right there. It’s a very valuable one, both in terms of money that it brings in and what players you can bring in to play the Champions League. Do you leave that to chance?
“Again, if I am Nagelesmann, I am saying ‘let’s wait until the end of the season, sorting out my business with Bayern Munich, then figuring out what my next steps will be’ But, if you are Spurs, you might not have until the end of the season.”
PRESSURE ON LEVY
The Spurs chairman has come under fire for a number of years now from his own supporters.
There have been times this season when the Tottenham faithful have chanted anti-Levy and anti-Enic words from the stands.
If things continue to go sideways or backwards in the summer and beyond, then those chants will only grow louder from the fans because they are starting to get fed up with those running the club’s ship.
