The Florida Atlantic Owls’ Cinderella run continues at this year’s NCAA Tournament. On Thursday night (23 March), the No.9 seed upsetting No. 4 Tennessee 62–55 to punch their ticket in their first Elite Eight appearance in school history.
At Madison Square Garden they kept their dreams alive, using a 20-4 run over six minutes to all but ensure the victory over the Vols.
This is the first tournament appearance during March Madness for the Owls since 2002. They beat No. 8 Memphis in the First Round before getting tested by No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson in the Second Round.
Florida Atlantic will face No. 3 Kansas State in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
Dusty May is at the helm and continuing to write history
Dusty May is the head men’s basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University and in 2022-2023 has led the team to its greatest season in school history.
May was a student manager for the Indiana University men’s basketball team and after graduating, he began his professional career as an administrative assistant/video coordinator at USC from 2000-02. He had his first assistant coaching job at Eastern Michigan, where he was on staff for the 2005–2006 season, and had stints at Murray State and UAB.
May served six seasons as assistant coach and associate head coach at Louisiana Tech. He joined FAU in 2018 after three years as an assistant coach at the University of Florida.
The 46-year-old is the only FAU head men’s basketball coach to lead his team to four consecutive winning seasons, and has enabled the school to compete on a national stage. Heading into the postseason this year the Owls owned a 28-3 record, winning a Conference USA Regular Season title while May was named Conference USA Coach of the Year.
What we know about Dusty May’s wife and family
Dusty May’s wife is Anna Nonte May, who is an operational therapist from Bloomfield, Indiana. Anna and Dusty are high school sweethearts having met at Eastern Greene High in Bloomfield.
They both went to Indiana University, however, Anna eventually enrolled at Purdue.
The family moved around a lot as Dusty moved into various coaching roles. They currently live with their kids in in Boca Raton, Florida, but have lived in Indiana, California and Ruston, Louisiana, among other places.
The couple got married in 2000, and Dusty and Anna May have three children, sons Jack, Charlie and Eli.
Both Dusty and Anna have posted about their sons on Facebook in the past, although Anna hasn’t been active since 2012.
Dusty has been active more recently and shared a picture with his three boys last year.
The couple’s eldest son, Jack, who was born in 2003, is a basketball player for the Florida Gators, and represents the University of Florida in NCAA divisions.
Jack is a graduate of Saint Andrew’s High in Florida and led his school to the state championship title in 2020. He is on Twitter @jackmay24 where he often tweets and retweets about his dad.
