How Julian Nagelsmann felt about becoming Tottenham boss in 2021 as Spurs now seek talks

Tottenham Hotspur are seeking talks with Julian Nagelsmann – and he appeared interested in the Spurs job back in 2021.

Tottenham look set to part ways with Antonio Conte in the near future, whether that’s at the end of the season or in the coming days.

Daniel Levy and co must find a replacement and may have already started that process even with Conte still in the job.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique have been mentioned, alongside Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi.

Thomas Tuchel was one name mentioned but has completed a whirlwind move to Bayern Munich following the shock sacking of Julian Nagelsmann.

Tuchel is off the table for Tottenham now but Nagelsmann appears to be a realistic target.

The Telegraph claim that Tottenham are now seeking talks with Nagelsmann over becoming the new Spurs boss amid a belief that the German has a strong affinity to the club.

Julian Nagelsmann was interested in Tottenham in 2021

This isn’t the first time Nagelsmann has been linked with Tottenham.

Nagelsmann was a strong name in the mix for the Tottenham job after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, but he ended up joining Bayern from RB Leipzig.

So what exactly did Nagelsmann think about Tottenham back then?

Well, it sounded like the German was pretty interested in a move to North London.

The Daily Mail reported in April 2021 that Nagelsmann was keen on becoming Spurs boss before Bayern came calling.

Nagelsmann was so interested that he was even asking contacts in England about Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy, according to the Mail.

Nagelsmann clearly felt that Bayern was a job he just couldn’t turn down, but a move to Spurs was a serious possibility if Bayern hadn’t arrived into the race.

Fast forward two years and Nagelsmann is now in the mix for the Tottenham job once again and Spurs will have to hope that he is still keen.

The 35-year-old is considered to be one of the top young coaches in Europe and would be an enormous coup for Tottenham, even after his Bayern sacking.

If Nagelsmann does have a love for Tottenham, Levy needs to be making the calls right now and gauging his interest in finally heading to London.
