Journalist: UCL rivals want to sign Manchester City star, and Pep is willing to sell

Bayern Munich are reportedly warming to the idea of signing Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal, with the Manchester City defender growing into his role at the German side.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Portuguese international is open to staying in Bavaria as Bayern continue to work on the fullback’s best position, though a final decision is expected to be made some time from now as the Bundesliga side prepare to take on City in the UEFA Champions League.

With Sport reporting that Pep Guardiola is willing to sell Cancelo this summer, there’s a good chance that the 28-year-old could sign for Bayern on a permanent deal should Julian Nagelsmann finally settle on a position and role for the former Juventus superstar.

Many would consider Cancelo as the most complete fullback in world football, and with Bayern warming to the idea of signing the defender permanently this summer, the club have a duty to find what is best for the Portuguese international with their current setup.

Indeed, Cancelo is running out of time to find his true calling in this Bayern team, and with a Champions League clash against City coming up next month, the defender could soon make a big impact at his new club if he can guide the German giants past his current employers.

Cancelo’s time at City is up based on the explosive manner the defender left the Manchester giants in January, yet the fullback signing for Bayern could hinge on how far the Munich-based club go in Europe, with Champions League glory now firmly in their sights.

Overcoming City will be a big test for Bayern, yet with Cancelo allowed to play, the Portuguese international could be up for the task of eliminating his parent club, with performances against the Manchester side something that might tempt Nagelsmann to sign the defender for good.
