Police engage terrorists on highway, kill one, recover AK-47 in Katsina

Police operatives engaged terrorists in a gun duel along Danmusa/Yantumaki Road in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina state during which a terrorist was killed.

The police narrated that they recovered one AK-47 rifle during the encounter.

SP Gambo Isah, The command’s spokesman, on Tuesday, said the terrorists blocked the road at a portion of Kesassa Village.

Isah explained that on March 27, 2023, at about 2.30 pm, a distress call was received that terrorists in their numbers, were shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, had blocked Danmusa–Yantumaki Road, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

As a result, DPO Danmusa Division sent a squad of policemen to the scene, engaged the criminals in a gunfight, and drove them away.

One of the terrorist-bandits was neutralized during a scan of the area, and his body was later found. Additionally, one AK-47 rifle was found at the scene along with twenty-two (22) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Isah claimed that it was reasonable to assume that numerous terrorists were shot, killed, or managed to flee the scene with gunshot wounds.

He added that Search parties are combing the nearest bushes with the intention of apprehending them and/or recovering their dead bodies.

Isah also urged residents of the surrounding communities to report any person found or seen with a suspected injury to the nearest police station.

He concluded by saying that the 
Command appreciates the police’s efforts for their extraordinary bravery, gallantry, and professionalism in dealing with the hoodlums.
