Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced their divorce and people are only just realizing that between her two marriages, the actress was in a relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal.
The Your Place or Mine actress and her second husband were married for nearly 12 years and share a son, Tennessee Jame Toth together.
Reese Witherspoon was previously married to Ryan Phillippe, with whom she shares her eldest daughter and older son.
As she and Jim are set to navigate the new chapters of their lives, they are making sure their children and the entire family are their utmost priority.
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal’s relationship explored
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly started dating around 2007. They first met on the sets of their movie Rendition in 2006 but sparks flew between them only a year later.
PEOPLE reports, Jake made the first move and the actress never thought it would lead to anything serious. Apparently, she developed a crush on him over time.
However, they parted ways only a year later and just when fans thought their relationship had come to a standstill, they were spotted canoodling in Rome, a month after her divorce from Ryan was finalized.
But, the actress had just ended her marriage of years, and taking a big step in her new relationship wasn’t something she was willing to do.
Jake and Reese’s romance didn’t last long as the actress decided to call quits on it.
A source told the outlet: “They broke up. It’s totally and completely over. Reese was the one who had to do it. She just got out of a divorce and was so concerned with her family, she just didn’t have the time for him and he really demanded that.”
Ex-partners remain close friends
The former couple ended their relationship on good terms and continue to remain friends. Even while dating, they had nothing but good things to share about each other.
In an interview with the Huffington Post from 2008, when asked about her then-boyfriend, Reese said: “He’s very supportive. Suffice it to say, I’m very happy in life, and I’m very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me.”
And, in another interview, she called Jake a “great cook” and revealed that the duo had pet chickens and grew tomatoes and cucumbers together.
Meanwhile, talking about Reese, Jake said in 2016: “She is, as I would say about most of the women who I’m close friends with or had relationships with in my life, one of the smartest, strongest people I’ve ever met.”
Actress has three children from two marriages
Reese dated Jake between her two marriages.
Her daughter, Ava Elizabeth Phillipe, whom she shares with Ryan, is 23 years old, and their son, Deacon Reese Phillipe, is now 19.
Just like his parents, Reese’s eldest son is also an actor and he made his on-screen debut in the third season of Never Have I Ever on Netflix.
And, her youngest son with Jim, Tennessee, is 10 years old.
