Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte did not want to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.
That’s according to a report in The Athletic published this morning.
Tottenham signed Lenglet on loan from Barcelona in the summer of 2022.
The report published this morning has claimed that Conte did not fancy the 27-year-old France international centre-back.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham could sack the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss following his extraordinary outburst last weekend.

“He craved a top-quality left-sided centre-back (like Alessandro Bastoni, another of his former Inter players) and they instead signed Clement Lenglet on loan,” states the report in The Athletic.
“He wanted a world-class right wing-back (even he knew there was no point in asking for Achraf Hakimi) and they ended up with Djed Spence.”
Disappointing Spurs spell
In our view, Clement Lenglet has not been great for Tottenham Hotspur so far this season.
The 27-year-old centre-back has made 16 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs this campaign.
The £97,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender has given two assists in those games.
Lenglet also made six starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League for Tottenham this season.
The Barcelona-owned centre-back scored one goal in those games.
We do not think that Tottenham will make the defender’s loan deal permanent at the end of the season.
That Barcelona were willing to let the former Sevilla centre-back leave on loan last summer was probably a hint that he was not going to be at the level that Conte wants his centre-backs to be.
