Report: Arsenal now keen on 25-year-old PL star amid claims Tottenham have £30m buy-back clause
Arsenal want Kyle Walker-Peters as they consider bringing the Southampton defender back to North London this summer.
That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to Give Me Sport.
Jones claims that Walker-Peters is on Arsenal’s radar and they could make a move if Southampton suffer relegation.
A new right back appears to be a priority for Arsenal and other targets are on the radar, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
Walker-Peters would offer a homegrown option though and is now a name for Arsenal fans to keep an eye on in the coming months.
Arsenal wanted Kyle Walker-Peters last year
Arsenal fans may remember that Walker-Peters was also on the radar for Edu and Mikel Arteta last summer.
The Athletic reported last summer that Arsenal had Walker-Peters on their list of potential signings.
Walker-Peters was also linked with Manchester United in that report, with Southampton fearful over the defender’s future.
It was noted that there had been little progress over a new deal, with Walker-Peters out of contract in 2025.
If that situation doesn’t change this summer, Walker-Peters may well be sold – even if Southampton stay up.
Walker-Peters has Tottenham history
It’s not often we see players turn out for Arsenal and Tottenham but Walker-Peters could do just that.
The 25-year-old was a product of the Spurs youth setup but only managed 12 Premier League appearances for the club.
Sold to Southampton in 2020, Walker-Peters has kicked on to become an impressive top-flight right back.
TalkSPORT even reported in January that Tottenham were looking to re-sign Walker-Peters.
That seems highly unlikely now with Pedro Porro snapped up from Sporting instead.
Yet with The Athletic claiming that Spurs put a £30million buy-back clause in Walker-Peters’ exit, Tottenham could yet be a problem for Arsenal in this chase.
