Weston McKennie of Juventus now expects to receive rival offers once his loan transfer to Leeds United expires. Aston Villa are among the clubs observing the midfielder’s situation.
That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Leeds intend to decide McKennie’s long-term future at Elland Road in the summer. The 24-year-old joined the Premier League side for the remainder of this season in January. But the Whites have since fired Jesse Marsch.
Juventus agreed to give Leeds an option to buy McKennie for £30m as part of his loan deal in January. Yet the American also agreed to join and help Marsch guide the team to safety. Only to see Javi Gracia replace his compatriot at the helm and remain in a relegation fight.
Aston Villa face a European battle to secure a transfer for McKennie
Potential suitors, including Aston Villa, AS Roma and Borussia Dortmund, are now tracking McKennie’s situation at Leeds in view of their own transfers with Juventus. Clubs are keen to keep tabs on his possible availability as the anchor is yet to commit his future to Leeds.
McKennie will consider his options at the end of this season and expects to receive offers from around Europe, too. The Texas-born star wants to get his career firmly back on track after a tough first few years at Juventus. His contract with the Turin outfit runs until 2025.
Leeds are already planning to let McKennie return to Juventus in June
Leeds appear to have already decided against buying McKennie following his loan transfer from Juventus, though. 90min reports that the Whites are planning to let the midfielder go back to Turin in June. Even though he has started in six of his eight Premier League games.
Reports by Tuttosport have also already credited Aston Villa with an interest in McKennie’s transfer following his loan deal at Leeds. Villans boss Unai Emery is in awe of the American, who Clinton Morrison calls ‘outstanding’, and would love to see him move to Birmingham.
