‘Said no’: Potential Conte replacement at Tottenham didn’t want to work with Nuno – journalist
Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has said that Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason did not want to work under Nuno when the latter was the manager of the North London club.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has said on his YouTube channel that Nuno wanted Mason to work with him when he was the Tottenham head coach.
However, the 31-year-old turned down the offer to work in the youth set-up.
Gold made the comments about the former Tottenham midfielder while discussing just how much current Spurs head coach Antonio Conte likes him.
Mason, who has been in caretaker-managerial role at Tottenham, is reportedly a candidate to take charge of the first team now should Conte gets sacked.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein said this week that Mason is “very popular at Tottenham and there are people within the game who would like to see him given the opportunity” to manage Spurs.
The Times have reported that Tottenham are considering sacking Conte.
The former Chelsea manager is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season.
The Italian went on an extraordinary rant last weekend when he hammered his Tottenham players and also seemed to take a dig at the club’s hierarchy.

Gold said: “Nuno asked or wanted Mason to be on his team, and Mason said no at that point. He really didn’t want to. He wanted to stick with the youth team.”
