People applying for Volusia County’s Housing Choice Voucher Program have until April 14 to file additional paperwork needed to keep their applications active, according to a Volusia County news release.
According to the release, the county will send pre-application status verification forms Tuesday to 5,979 applicants on the program’s waiting list. People must complete the form and return it to the county’s Community Assistance Division by April 14.
“If an applicant does not respond by the deadline, they will be removed from the waiting list,” according to the county.

The Volusia County Administration Center, which contains the County Council Chambers, is in downtown Deland.
The county announced that it will give priority to families with adults with disabilities who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Such families must submit documentation that verifies the status, “such as a benefit award letter from the Social Security Administration or documentation from a medical professional,” according to the county.

The county is not accepting new applications for the Section 8 program. Waiting list last opened on March 24, 2022.
“The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded rental assistance program designed to help very low-income families, the elderly and the disabled obtain decent, safe and clean housing in the private market at an affordable price is,” according to the release. “Participants can choose any accommodation that meets the requirements of the program.”
