Speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur and Julian Nagelsmann has intensified over the past few days.
Several outlets including The Telegraph and The Guardian reported that Spurs want to speak to the 35-year-old.
Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham is increasingly uncertain in wake of his explosive post-match comments last week.
After Spurs drew at Southampton, the Spurs boss appeared to criticise his players, the club and the board.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have sacked Nagelsmann and replaced him with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
Tottenham were reportedly eyeing Tuchel, but now Nagelsmann is available, they seem to be looking towards him.
Likewise, Mauricio Pochettino is apparently on the Spurs radar.
However, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that the Real Madrid job could potentially be on the two coaches’ minds.
There have already been reports suggesting Pochettino could be holding out for the Bernabeu role.
And Sheth has told GiveMeSport that Nagelsmann could potentially also be tempted by the job at Real.
He also said it’s not a certainty that Spurs will sack Conte anytime soon.
“If Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Nagelsmann were to be approached by Real Madrid,” began Sheth.
“I just wonder whether the managers will keep their powder dry until the summer and then say, right, ‘I’ve got Real Madrid here, I’ve got Tottenham here, which one is the best one for me?’
“Tottenham will be looking at all manner of replacements for Antonio Conte. But as much as we think he’ll go, it’s not 100% guaranteed that he’ll leave before the end of the season.
“We’re halfway through this international break now and there’s still no word from Tottenham with regard to Conte’s future.”
Our view
Nagelsmann certainly looks like a great fit for Spurs. He’s a young and incredibly talented manager who could well do what Pochettino did back in the mid-2010s.
Although the Real vacancy will appeal to every elite manager, that’s not to say the Tottenham job is bad by any means.
Spurs have some great players in their ranks, including arguably the best striker in the world.
What manager wouldn’t like to try their hand at turning Tottenham into a Premier League title challenger and Champions League finalist again?
Besides, it looks as though Real really like the look of Pochettino. If that were the case, then Nagelsmann’s choice would be more straightforward.
