Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 update for Insiders registered in the Release Preview channel, adding some improvements that were available in the Beta and Dev channels in the past. There is also an apparently new change, which gives users faster access to the new Bing chat experience.
As you may remember, Microsoft added Bing to the Windows Search experience with an update in late February, which can be accessed via a button in the search panel. With this version, the button that takes you to a Bing chat is available directly within the search bar on the taskbar (provided you have access to a Bing preview). Unfortunately, true integration with Windows 11 is still not available, so you’ll be taken to Bing within Microsoft Edge.
There are some other changes with this update. Now, users may see notifications related to their Microsoft account in the Start menu, with warnings for things like creating a backup of their files. This is only available to a small group of Insiders, and those who do see this experience may see a slightly different look to it because Microsoft is still testing it. Another change related to the search bar on the taskbar is that it will now appear lighter if you are using a custom Windows color mode. Specifically, you’ll see this change if Windows mode is set to dark and Application mode is set to light in the Settings app (under Personalization -> Colors). Microsoft also mentions “several new features” for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, but there’s no explanation as to which new features are exactly new.
Apart from that, there are a lot of smaller fixes in this build for different parts of Windows, including the narrator, USB printers, and more. Here is the complete list:

- This update addresses an issue that affects a bulk shared volume (CSV). CSV failed to connect to the Internet. This happens if you have enabled BitLocker and CSV-Managed Local Protection Tools, and the system recently rolled BitLocker keys.
- This update addresses an issue that affects Active Directory users and computers. stop responding. This occurs when you use the taskbar view to enable or disable many objects at the same time.
- The update addresses an issue that affects the Remote Procedure Call service (rpcss.exe). The problem may cause a race condition between the Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) and the Microsoft Remote Procedure Call (RPC) endpoint mapper.
- This update addresses an issue that affects Microsoft PowerPoint. Azure Virtual Desktop has stopped responding. This occurs while using Think-Cell features.
- This update addresses an issue affecting Windows Search. Windows Search within Windows container images fails.
- This update affects the Group Policy Editor. Adds Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 to the list of protocols you can set.
- This update affects the Arab Republic of Egypt. The update supports the government’s order to change daylight savings time for 2023.
- This update affects jscript9Legacy. dll. Adds an ITracker and an ITrackingService to prevent MHTML from not responding.
- This update addresses an issue that affects the Microsoft HTML Application (HTA) host. This problem blocks the execution of code that uses the Microsoft HTA. This occurs when Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) enforcement mode and User Mode Code Integrity (UMCI) enforcement mode are turned on.
- This update affects the Group Policy Management Console. Addresses a scripting error in the Group Policy Preferences window.
- This update addresses an issue affecting the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) client. The client returns an HTTP server error status (500). This error occurs when a move job is running in the Storage Migration Service.
- This update addresses an issue that affects required state configuration. It loses previously configured options. This happens if metaconfig. mof Missing.
- This update addresses an issue that affects the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) option 119 – Domain Lookup option. The problem prevents you from using the connection’s DNS suffix lookup list.
- This update addresses a rare issue that may cause an input destination to be null. This problem may occur when trying to convert a physical point to a logical point during hit testing. Because of this, the computer issues a stop error.
- This update addresses an issue that affects the Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) certificate. The system reports that some SCEP certificate installations failed. Instead, the system should report them as pending.
- This update addresses an issue affecting the new Windows Runtime (WinRT) API. This issue prevents the application from querying location information using MBIM2.0+.
- This update addresses a known issue affecting kiosk device profiles. If you enable auto login, it may not work. After the autopilot has finished saving, these devices remain on the credentials screen. This issue occurs after installing updates dated January 10, 2023 onwards.
If you’re a Windows Insider enrolled in the Release Preview channel (and your PC supports Windows 11), you can get this update through Windows Update, or wait for it to install automatically, which should happen sooner rather than later. This is likely an early look at the optional cumulative update released later this month, which will then be made into the mandatory update on Patch Tuesday in April. If you’d rather not take any chances with the Insider Program, you can wait a few weeks for these improvements.
