DualShockers recently had the opportunity to sit down with Gareth Damian Martin, creator of one of the biggest indie hits of the past year, Citizen Sleeper.
During the interview, Martin touched on their future plans for the Sleeping Citizen universe, revealing that something new might be coming our way “sooner than people might think.”
Martin revealed, “In terms of Citizen Sleeper in terms of a broader structure, Citizen Sleeper 1 was kind of a test or Citizen Sleeper was kind of a test for me, and I’ve continued it with DLC. Because the DLC has been successful recently and the game is successful and people are very interested, I’m interested in continuing this series of experiments. We’ll talk about that sooner than people might think.”
Martin went on to talk about their enthusiasm for continuing to build the game’s world.
“When I sat down to make Citizen Sleeper, I was thinking in the back of my mind, ‘I’m going to do this experiment but also I’m going to do it in a way that relates to the things I’d be happy to spend years and much longer on, and happy to spend a decade doing in this world.’” So, this is kind of baked in and seeing as if people have given me a virtual thumbs up so far, I’m going to keep going until I get a virtual thumbs up or until I run out of things to say.”
Martin admitted that they got emotional while writing the end of the downloadable content, saying “When I came to write that final ending, it was really emotional to write. Also, I was so happy in my mind that I could be like, ‘This isn’t the end.’ Because I feel I really have a lot of things I want to explore, I want this to be a world I’ve been interested in exploring for a long time.”
When asked if a new Citizen Sleeper project would be their next project, Martin responded by saying that they had multiple projects in the works at once, but emphasized that “there are more projects that are being cooked in the Citizen Sleeper cooker”.
