A new track has gone viral on TikTok this month that’s become known as ‘Big Wave’, but where does the song actually come from?
From PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s Boy’s a Liar to Sam Smith’s Unholy, there have already been loads of viral TikTok songs this year and we’re not even three months into 2023.
Some other popular sounds have been Miley Cyrus’ Flowers, Calm Down by Rema and a sped up version of Mariah Carey’s famous It’s a Wrap, which are all used in videos on the app.

What is the ‘Big Wave’ song from TikTok?
‘Big Wave’ is a remix of the song DICE by K-pop group NMIXX.
The South Korean girl group was formed by SQU4D, a sub-label of JYP Entertainment, who also set up the successful band TWICE.
NMIXX has six members, Lily, Haewon, Sullyoon, Bae, Jiwoo, and Kyujin, and made their debut just a year ago, in February 2022.
Their first album was called Ad Mare and contained the lead single O.O, but DICE wasn’t released until September 2022.
The music is part of their second single album Entwurf, which contains four tracks including Cool (Your Rainbow).
Who made the ‘Big Wave’ remix?
The popular ‘Big Wave’ remix was created and shared by a TikTok user called @cxchae on February 16 and has been used more than 150,000 times.
She combined the vocals from the NMIXX track with the melody from the song Labyrinth by 9lives to create the viral remix.
Now, people have started doing the dance that the girls do in the music video with the sound and it’s become a viral TikTok trend.
The Big Wave Challenge involves dancing then pointing the camera to the floor and then dancing some more as you reappear.
Khalid takes on the challenge
American singer and songwriter Khalid has taken over the app after doing the Big Wave trend on his TikTok profile.
The video has had more than 6.4 million views and sees the Love Lies singer dancing in front of a luxury pool and mountain view.
