Jamie Redknapp has slammed Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Tanguy Ndombele as players that ‘haven’t done it’ in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur and players that won’t win you trophies.
All three arrived for big money, including Richarlison and Tanguy Ndombele who were club-record transfers for Spurs.
But Redknapp thinks Daniel Levy can’t be blamed for signings such as that not working out and not having the quality to help the team win a trophy, even though the Spurs chairman is responsible for the losing culture which the former midfielder thinks will ‘never’ change.
Both Richarlison and Bissouma arrived under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, who was sacked on Sunday evening following his rant after the 3-3 draw to Southampton.
Whereas Ndombele, who is now on-loan at Serie A high-flyers Napoli, joined when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, but he struggled under the Argentine, Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo, before Conte booted him out.
After a playing career that included Tottenham and Liverpool on his CV, Redknapp thinks there is a clear issue with how the north London club is run, as he told Sky Sports News.
“The players they got in the summer, Richarlison, he hasn’t done it,” said Redknapp. “Bissouma hasn’t done it.
“So, you can’t blame the chairman for that always. But I do always believe they are never quite in the mix for what I would call the big players.
“If you look at their top signings. Richarlison and Ndombele. I wouldn’t say they are players who are going to change that whole culture of the club that are going to go and win you that trophy that you need or compete to winning the Premier League title. It’s not run like that. It’s never going to happen.”
RICHARLISON’S STRUGGLES
The Brazil international hasn’t scored a Premier League goal since his transfer from Everton in the summer.
Although, he will feel he hasn’t started enough games in order for him to get so much heat – after Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League, he made sure to fire shots at Conte.
Nonetheless, Richarlison has had 749 minutes of league football this term, in comparison, Son Heung-min has over 2000, yet only two goals when starting.
Perhaps if Conte handed more minutes to Richarlison, then he would have done a lot more, but for now, he has to take the flak that he has been a flop since joining.
