MANILA -GCash recently expanded its presence worldwide after activating services in the United Kingdom and Canada and is currently gearing up to make its offering available to more countries.
Winsley Bangit, chief customer officer of the e-wallet service provider, told reporters that they are choosing locations for their launch where many Filipinos can benefit from the platform.
“Of course, we are also working with regulators to make sure we are in compliance,” he said.
GCash is now available in Japan, Australia, Italy and the United States. Users can download and use the app in those countries using an international SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card.
GCash Overseas is currently in pilot testing phase. Full launch is expected this year.
This will eventually enable GCash users from outside the country to send money to their recipients in the Philippines for free. Other services include bill payment and load credit purchases.
In addition, it is also expanding its non-fungible token (NFT) offering. NFT is a form of digital asset that Gcash is making available through Gcrypto.
Users can access curated NFT collections including The House of Ohlala by Filipino contemporary artist Reen Barrera. The fintech player is currently working with more partners to expand the portfolio.
“We want the young and upcoming. We want to support emerging Filipino artists,” Bangit said.
Other features of the Super App include stock trading, online shopping insurance, cross-border QR (quick response) payments and installment purchases. inq
