South-East must engage other zones to produce president — Monarch
The Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao has said people of the South-East geopolitical zone must engage and collaborate with other zones if presidency were to rotate to the zone.
Speaking on a Fresh FM, Ibadan, political programme, on Saturday, Oba Alao said election is not won on the basis of playing politics of religion and ethnicity.
Though he noted that the South-East had a case regarding power rotating towards the zone, he said such will not be achieved on sentiments but with the right engagements.
Alao said: “It is morally right to say power should go to South East. But before you can come to that conclusion, there must be an engagement. People from the South East should engage their counterparts in the North, South South and South West. Power rotation should be a matter of engagements, you need to engage your people.”
Introspecting on the February 25 presidential election, Alao said Nigerians voted the president-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu in the interest of equity, justice and unity of Nigeria.
He condemned those who described the emergence of Tinubu as fraudulent avowing that Tinubu would serve the interest of all Nigerians, not a section.
“Everybody who voted for Tinubu wanted the country to be united. That is what the presidential election symbolises. The victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu symbolises unity, equity and justice.
“Tinubu is not the interest of Yoruba alone, he is the interest of the whole Nigeria. Thank God the election has spoken well. The people have voted,” Oba Alao added.
