Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that Manchester United central defender and Newcastle United summer transfer target Harry Maguire should leave.
Newcastle United have been linked with Manchester United central defender Harry Maguire.
In March, 90min reported that Newcastle are keen on securing the services of the £200,000-a-week (SalarySport) 30-year-old centre-back in the summer transfer window.
TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook told GiveMeSport in April that Newcastle as well as West Ham United are keen on Maguire.
Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Merson believes that Maguire simply has to leave the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Yeah, it’s hard though, he’s at the biggest club in the world in my opinion, I know they’re not performing like the biggest club in the world but they’re a huge club and he’s there, so wherever he goes from here is going to be a down[grade].”
The pundit added: “He’s worked so hard, from where he’s come from to get to Leicester then to get to Man Utd, it’s probably hard for him to leave, but he has to leave.”
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire should consider Newcastle United transfer
In our view, Harry Maguire should seriously consider leaving Manchester United for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
The defender did not get much playing time at Old Trafford this season, and he is unlikely to become a regular under manager Erik ten Hag next campaign.
Maguire made eight starts and eight substitute appearances in the Premier League, and made three starts and four substitute appearances in the UEFA Europa League for the Red Devils this season.
Newcastle are a big club who will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Maguire is a very good defender who knows the Premier League and has experience of playing in Europe.
We believe that the England international will make Newcastle a better and more solid team at the back.
