Outreach Empowers 100 Widows In Lekki

No fewer than 100 widows benefitted from this year’s Widow Support Programme organised by His Heavenly Light Ministry at Lekki, Lagos. The Convener, Rev (Mrs.) Cecilia A. Onitiri, said there was a need to assist the widows, especially the young ones, so that they could take care of their children. She said: “ It is important to make them understand that they can still live better lives after losing their husbands. Before this time, we discovered that majority of them lived dejected lives, which could possibly lead to their untimely death. This year, we are able to reach out to 100 widows, who were thoroughly screened.” She said the programme was her late husband, Chief Akintunde Onitiri’s dream before his demise on April 27, 2022. “We are using this event to remember him.” She further said that the programme gave the widows an opportunity to have that sense of belonging. Meanwhile, the widows underwent free medical check-ups that was conducted by Kleinburg Medical MedSpa, led by Dr. Akeem Anifowose, its senior medical director. They were treated for different ailments, including high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis as well as eye checks. Drugs and treatments were administered to them. Also, appointments were given to some for follow-up. Another speaker at the event included Rev (Mrs.) Abiola Olaide Adewale, a retired banker and a widow, who spoke on “God’s special care for widows.” The widows went home with foodstuffs, including Indomie, beans , 25kg bag of rice and other items. The widows received a soft loan of N20,000 to be paid back from July 2024. They were advised to invest in any little business that could yield them profit.
