Former Vice President Mike Pence will launch his presidential campaign next week in Des Moines, Iowa, multiple sources tell CBS News.
Pence is expected to launch his 2024 bid with a speech and video campaign on Wednesday, June 7. NBC News We first reported the exact timing and location of Pence’s expected announcement.
Iowa is a top priority for Pence’s fledgling campaign, and the former vice president plans to visit Hawkeye almost weekly until the Iowa caucuses, according to GOP sources. He is expected to make a big effort to woo evangelical voters, a crucial voting bloc in the state, and Pence’s bloc could demand he give his identity as an evangelical Christian.
The former vice president is entering a growing GOP field that already includes the former vice president — former President Trump — as well as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott, and others.
A super PAC has been formed to support Pence’s presidential run, per CBS News Previously mentioned. The PAC, “Committed to America,” is filled with former aides to Georgia governors Brian Kemp and former Maryland governor Larry Hogan. Like Pence, who refused to reject President Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory on January 6, 2021, both conservative Republicans have clashed with Trump in recent years.
