President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday afternoon touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, one week ahead of his swearing-in.
The former governor of Lagos State left the country early this month to network with foreign investors and perfect arrangements for his inauguration on May 29, according to a statement issued by his media team at the time.
The President-Elect, who arrived at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, yesterday afternoon, expressed sorrow over the demise of the founder of First City Monument Bank, Otunba Subomi Michael Balogun, who he described as a “giant among men for his trailblazing and pioneering role in investment banking in Nigeria.”
The consummate banker, boardroom guru, philanthropist, Asiwaju Onigbagbo and Olori Omo Oba Ijebuland, renowned for his royal and sartorial elegance died in London on Friday May 19, 2033 according to his family.
President-Elect Tinubu, in a statement by his media office, signed by Tunde Rahman, Tinubu lamented the transition of Otunba Balogun, saying his death had creates a vacuum that would be difficult to fill in the banking industry and among his Ijebu people where he was a symbol of unity and traditional values as well as among Christians in Nigeria.
He maintained that Otunba Subomi Balogun achieved what many considered impossible when he pioneered investment banking in Nigeria and through his dedication, vision, industry and commitment to excellence, the late banking genius changed the financial services sector of the economy and became an example to generations of investment bankers.
