Premier League youngsters Isaac Price and Romain Mundle could both be on their way to Standard Liege after leaving Everton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
That is according to Voetbal Krant.
The report claims that, after Price and his family were ‘spotted’ at Standard’s Stade de Sclessin, Mundle has been offered the opportunity to sign on the dotted line too.
The highly-rated winger is rejecting the opportunity to sign a new five-year deal at Tottenham Hotspur. Mundle is keen on a move to the Belgian top flight, and recently visited Standard’s training ground while taking in a Jupiler League clash with KV Westerlo.
Everton and Tottenham are losing two big talents
News of Mundle’s departure is not going down well amongst an already-concerned Spurs fanbase. The London-born 20-year-old is one of the most exciting talents in Tottenham’s academy, scoring seven goals and setting up five more in the 2022/23 Premier League 2 campaign.
A lack of first-team opportunities could cost Spurs their chance to keep Mundle in North London, however. Despite being included on the bench on no fewer than five occasions recently, the skilful forward has not made a single appearance in England’s top flight this term, his development perhaps hampered by the all the uncertainty on and off the pitch at Spurs.
This has shades of the Noni Madueke situation. Madueke left Spurs for PSV Eindhoven. And, after making his name in the Eredivisie, he returned to London with bitter rivals Chelsea in January. He’s been a bright spark in an otherwise dreadful spell under Frank Lampard.
Everton midfielder Price finds himself in a similar position to Mundle.
His impending move to Standard Liege is also borne out of frustration surrounding a lack of opportunities at senior level. Price impressed during a couple of friendlies around the time of the Qatar World Cup, but chances have been in short supply since then with Everton fighting against the tide of relegation.
Standard Liege coach Ronny Deila admitted his interest around a month ago, and negotiations appear to be progressing.
“I don’t know if (the deal) done or not. But he is indeed a player we are following,” Deila tells DH Net.
“We spoke with Fergal (Harkin, Standard Liege’s sporting director). The idea is to have a different transfer window from last season. It was sometimes chaos, recruiting two or three players before the transfer window closed.”
