Tottenham Hotspur have decided to dodge a move for Arnaut Danjuma as his loan spell from Villarreal comes to an end.
Arnaut Danjuma will not be staying at Tottenham Hotspur with his permanent option set to be turned down.
That is according to the London Evening Standard, who report that Tottenham don’t plan to keep hold of Danjuma.
The Netherlands international joined Tottenham on loan in January as he fancied another crack at Premier League action.
Formerly of Bournemouth, Danjuma had excelled with Villarreal and Spurs were happy to take him on loan with an option to buy at £27million according to The Times.
It all started so well for Danjuma; he came off the bench to score on his debut against Preston North End.
However, Danjuma would go onto make just one Premier League start and eight substitute appearances, totalling 163 minutes.
Football London reported last week that Danjuma was interested in staying at Tottenham if promised more first-team action.
Spurs either didn’t feel Danjuma was good enough or couldn’t make that promise, so have decided to move on.
Everton snub backfires for Arnaut Danjuma
Danjuma’s move to Tottenham was something of a controversial one back in January.
Everton had agreed a deal to sign Danjuma on loan with an option to buy, just as Tottenham ended up doing.
Everton then decided to sack Frank Lampard, which resulted in Danjuma having second thoughts about the move.
Danjuma pulled a complete U-turn, deciding to sign for Tottenham and leave the Toffees dumbfounded.
The Toffees weren’t able to find another attacker in the January window and stayed up by the skin of their teeth.
Danjuma could have become a hero at Goodison Park, playing regularly and securing himself a Premier League future.
The 26-year-old instead picked Tottenham, where he barely played and is no longer wanted.
That decision always looked bold given that Danjuma was going to be in direct competition with Son Heung-min, a battle he was unlikely to win.
Everton surely wouldn’t go back in for Danjuma now and his future in English football is up in the air as Tottenham move on.
