The National Executive Council (NEC) members of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), have appointed Comrade Areshola Kudus as the acting chairman for the Lagos state chapter.
A statement issued Sunday by the RTEAN’s secretary general, Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, said Kudus’ appointment was sequel to the ruling of the National Industrial Court delivered on 18th April, 2023, nullifying the action of the Lagos state government and “held that we had the right to operate in Lagos state and dissolved the committee set up by the Lagos state government to take over our offices and loading points while directing them to vacate our offices immediately and allow the executive committee of our union to continue to occupy their office.
“Gentlemen of the press, on behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) members of the RTEAN, we are here to call your attention to the incident that happened on the 28th of September 2022, where the Lagos state government announced the suspension/dissolution of RTEAN, its elected executive committee and its operation in Lagos state.
“RTEAN as a law-abiding organisation that does not take the laws into its hands but believes in the rule of law and follows due process took the matter to a competent court of jurisdiction, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Suit No: NICN/LA/381/2022.
“RTEAN being a registered trade union established under Decree 21 & 22 of 1978 as amended by Decree 1 of 1999 constitution under the Senior Staff and Employers Association as well as the Trade Union Act CAP T14 laws of the federation 2004 which falls under the exclusive legislative list of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, has the power to operate all over the country,” he said.
