Sadio Mane is set to leave Bayern Munich in the summer and Ally McCoist has spoken about the possibility of the Liverpool legend securing a transfer to Newcastle United.
The former Scotland striker thinks there is ‘potential’ in Sadio Mane joining Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, less than 12 months after he departed the Premier League, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (17/05/23 at 6:55 am).
Last summer, after winning the lot in Liverpool colours, the 31-year-old moved to Bayern Munich for a fee of £35 million (Sky Sports), but that transfer has proven to be a disastrous one for the all-action forward.
From injuries, and a lack of form to dressing room bust-ups. It seems as though Mane’s time in Bayern is up before it even started, as reported by Sky Germany.
In all competitions, the Senegal star has managed only 12 goals for the German champions, but he made matters worse by punching Leroy Sane following Bayern’s Champions League clash against Manchester City.
As a result, he is free to head for the exit door and McCoist was asked whether St James’ Park could be his next destination.
“That’s a potential,” said McCoist. “That’s perhaps one. They probably can’t afford the wages he (Mane) is on. But they would certainly look after him. I still think there is a better chance of him going somewhere like Italy.”
COULD MANE RETURN TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE?
A lot will depend on what type of transfer fee Bayern put on his head and the wages the former Liverpool and Southampton player is on.
If he is open to lowering that wage, then a number of teams might just come forward to secure his signature.
Other than that, they might be reluctant to do so, especially given that he turned 31 last month because clubs aren’t willing to push the boat out for players as soon as they go over 30.
