Outgoing Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has suggested that Cesar Azpilicueta could leave the Blues.
After Chelsea’s Premier League match against Newcastle United on Sunday, Frank Lampard said that he does not know what is happening with Cesar Azpilicueta in regard to his future.
Back in August 2022, Azpilicueta signed a new contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2024.
As reported by BBC Sport at the time, the defender was in talks over a move to Barcelona in the summer of 2022, but he decided to stay at Stamford Bridge.
The 33-year-old made 16 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea this season.
Azpilicueta, who can operate as a centre-back or as a right-back, also made three starts and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the Blues this campaign.
The defender started for Chelsea in their final Premier League game of the season against Newcastle on Sunday.
The match at Stamford Bridge in London ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to Football.London, in his programme notes ahead of the match against Newcastle, Azpilicueta suggested that you never know when you have played your final game, saying that “Chelsea is a huge part” of his life and that is he is “proud to be a part of it every time” he wears “the badge”.

And Lampard, who is now leaving his role at Chelsea, has suggested that the £150,000-a-week (SalarySport) could leave.
Lampard said about Azpilicueta, as quoted in Football.London: “We don’t know what is happening to Azpi yet but the respect for him and what he’s for this club was very evident today.”
