Avoid policies that will deepen poverty, NEF tells Tinubu

The Northern Elders’ Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and all newly sworn-in governors to honour the oath they took, and fulfil their electoral promises to Nigerians.

The group advised the President that “policies that compound poverty should be avoided, and where difficult decisions need to be taken, they should be accompanied with compassion, sensitivity and adequate public awareness.”

The NEF gave the advice in a congratulatory message on Wednesday signed by its Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

Baba-Ahmed, stated, partly, “The Forum will work with President Tinubu and governors to actualise their promises to make Nigerians more secure and improve the economy to reduce poverty and desperation.”

While noting that there were pending  cases  before election petitions tribunals, some of which may go all the way to the Supreme Court, the NEF “appeals to members of the judiciary to show the highest levels of competence and integrity in the manner they treat these cases.”
