Kevin Hatchard has told Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to sign French duo Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone instead of the ‘clearly talented’ Gabri Veiga from Celta de Vigo.
The European football expert added that Gabri Veiga ‘doesn’t fit’ what Jurgen Klopp wants from his midfield players, as he looks to refresh his team this summer.
He added that Nice’s rising star Khephren Thuram and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s midfield engine Manu Kone would be ‘better options’ for Liverpool, as he posted on Twitter.
Alexis Mac Allister’s signature has already been signed, sealed and delivered, but after missing out on Champions League football last season, fans feel more fresh faces are needed.
Both Kone and Thuram’s names have been linked to the Reds, but after Veiga helped his boyhood club Celta survive relegation from La Liga on the last day of the season, it has been suggested that the Merseyside giants have now entered the race for his signature.
But for Hatchard, Liverpool shouldn’t be looking towards Veiga, but instead Kone and Thuram, with the rising Spanish star more attack-minded.
“Gabri Veiga clearly talented, but doesn’t seem to me to fit what #lfc want/need from their midfielders,” said Hatchard.
“Koné or Thuram seem like better options to me, but you never know what Klopp sees in players. Already surprised people with his use of Gakpo.”
Liverpool still need more players
Whilst Mac Allister was a very good signing, he alone won’t help fix the mess the club found themselves in last season.
There are some arguing that a certain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been playing in midfield for England over the international break, should be pushed into the middle of the park by Klopp on the domestic stage,
If he does that, then there is one less midfielder he needs to bring in via the transfer market, and instead, the club can focus on finding a bonafide first-choice right-back.
