While Codemasters can be counted on to deliver the best experiences on a virtual racetrack, last year’s Formula 1 official release was more of a podium finish. Fortunately, to metaphor an old sports cliche, F1 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC proves that while the format is temporary, the category is permanent. F1 2023 is one of the smartest, smoothest and most complete simulation games ever made, with something for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

While it’s a bit cheesy and some of the characters are pretty annoying (although that’s kind of the point, I suppose), it’s nice to see Braking Point’s story mode return in F1 2023.

The soap opera’s story is surprisingly entertaining, adding some much needed flavor to what could be a somewhat clinical experience.

The story revolves around the new Konnersport racing team, and the rivalry between Aiden Jackson and Devon Butler. In an effort to bring more coherence to the narrative, Braking Point drops players into the thick of the action, playing out rivalries and team combat over a few turns.

In addition to the grueling race, players will need to make important decisions that can affect the team, while also navigating social media, and dealing with the press. It’s all part of the workday.

The small-scale nature of the races and season, combined with the ability to tweak the controls to match your experience level, makes the story mode an ideal starting point for players jumping into F1 2023.

After going over the pace in 17 chapters of entertaining action at Braking Point, F1 2023 offers fans plenty of other ways to enjoy the game, including an expanded career mode, online multiplayer, Grand Prix racing, time trials and many more.

Some of the more traditional single modes – like Grand Prix races and Time Trials – are hidden away in the new F1 World hub, where you’ll also find the digital storefront, loot boxes (via Podium Pass / Battle Pass) and other non-essential content.

The objective of F1 World is to level up your Tech and earn upgrades in order to improve the performance of your custom F1 racing car. You’ll do this by completing races and challenges that are of a larger scale in nature.

It almost sounds like a career mode for people who don’t have much free time. Once you know what all the different coins are for and what all the upgrades do, it’s a fun situation to dip into and out of, especially if you just want a quick game.

Career mode provides a more in-depth and authentic F1 (and F2) experience, although this can be customized to make it as beginner and time-consuming as you wish.

Ultimately, the ability to fully customize your in-game experience is what I love most about F1 2023.

Whether you want to race a full season complete with Formula 1 practice and qualifying events, or opt for a shorter, streamlined season with racing aids turned to the max, F1 2023 gives you the power to do just that.

It’s also hard to talk about F1 2023 without mentioning the graphics, which are stunning outside of the robotic character models.

In fact, from the moment the race begins, the stunning visuals transport you to real-world circuits with an astonishing level of fidelity.

Accurately designed car models, realistic lighting, vibrant colors, and countless environmental details are a feast for the eyes, or at least they would be if it weren’t for the blazingly fast gameplay running at a smooth frame rate.

The new Las Vegas arena is particularly impressive, taking players to the heart of the Las Vegas Strip at night – always fun.

If you’re a hardcore Formula 1 fan, the inclusion of the Las Vegas course is one of the game’s biggest selling points, and whether you love or hate the course design, this is your first chance to take a look at the track that lies ahead. debut next season.

Truthfully, there is not much to dislike about F1 2023, which excels in almost every area. While it gets better with each new release, the atmosphere at times feels a bit flat, and fails to capture the fanfare, excitement, and authenticity of racing.

The inevitable inclusion of loot boxes is a bit disappointing, though the Battle Pass is generally easy to ignore.

F1 2023 has great graphics, excellent handling, lots of courses and an entertaining story mode on top of it all and is one of the most complete simulation games ever.

Perfect for beginners and veterans alike, the exhilarating and endlessly entertaining F1 2023 well and truly leaves the competition in its dust.
