Sydney van Hooijdonk has admitted that he could leave Bologna this summer in a boost to Nottingham Forest’s hopes of bringing the striker to the Premier League.

If Sydney does indeed emulate Pierre, and pull on famous Garibaldi red, the hope will be – of course – that he replicates his father’s prolific finishing but stops short of the kind of drama which tainted Van Hooijdonk Sr’s Nottingham Forest legacy.
The 23-year-old Dutchman is currently under contract at outfit Bologna.
Van Hooijdonk has made only four appearances for the Serie A outfit since joining in 2021, however, spending the last 18 months on loan at Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.
According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest watched the physical centre-forward as he found the net 19 times in 2022/23. And while Sydney would not be drawn on whether he could follow his father to England, he did admit that he may cut his ties with Bologna if he cannot be guaranteed a first-team role at the Rossoblu.

“It will be interesting to see. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Van Hooijdonk tells Veronica Inside.
“I’m going on vacation now and I will follow all (the news). I assume I’ll just report back to Bologna. It will be a long summer, I think.
“I am now 23, and do not want to be loaned out for another year. I don’t know if it is financially feasible for Heerenveen to buy me. It was also agreed in advance; either I will play (at Bologna), or I will be sold. If I don’t play there, I think it’s also a good time to be sold.
“I have had a good season. I have to say that I am open to everything. It just depends on the story and what the plan is with me. I am open to anything.”
Only Wolves, Bournemouth and Southampton scored fewer Premier League goals than Nottingham Forest’s 38 last term. Forest confirmed recently that Chris Wood would be staying – turning his loan deal into a permanent transfer – but there could still be room for Van Hooijdonk with Emmanuel Dennis and Sam Surridge facing an uncertain future.
Andre Ayew has also departed upon the expiry of his contract.
