Gunmen abduct four guests returning from naming ceremony in Kwara

Suspected gunmen have abducted four persons including three naming guests and a vigilante in the Asa local government area of Kwara State.

Punch Metro gathered that the abductors in their numbers ambushed some guests who were heading home from a naming ceremony in Aboto village in the Council area.

The incident, it was further gathered occurred on Tuesday evening when the guests were returning to Ilorin from a naming ceremony held in Aboto.

Chairman of the vigilante in Kwara State, Saka Ibrahim, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent on Thursday.

According to him, “One of the natives in the community who held a naming ceremony for his newly born child was taking some guests home after the programme when his car was ambushed.

“Three male guests and one of our vigilante officials who tried to rescue them were however Kidnapped in the process. He was not wearing a uniform and did not carry any arms.

“Our men have been searching the bush for their whereabouts since then but no progress yet”.

Saka said the situation has been “really troubling because the abductors are yet to make contact with any of the victim’s family and not even for ransom”.

Kwara Police Command spokesperson, SP Okasanmi Ajayi could not confirm the incident.

Okasannmi who said that he was yet to be briefed on the incident said that he was out of the state on official duty.

He said, “I am not aware of the incident, I have been out of the state on official duty. I will contact the DPO and get in touch with you later”, he said.
