Besiktas have ruled out signing Dele Alli on a permanent basis with the Everton misfit destined to return to the Premier League outfit this summer.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse – the England international farmed out on loan to Turkey after failing to force his way into a relegation-threatened Everton side – then it did.
Dele Alli scored just twice and started just ten times in a highly-underwhelming Super Lig spell.
And Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has now confirmed that the former Tottenham Hotspur star will not be staying in Istanbul; the £8 million option-to-buy clause in Alli’s contract destined to go un-triggered.
“Our contract with Dele Alli is over,” Cebi tells BeIN Sports. “He was a player we were very excited about when he came. He won’t come back. We didn’t get what we expected from him.”
Does Dele Alli have a future at Everton?
Alli joined Everton after falling out of favour at Tottenham back in January 2022 but has started just one Premier League game so far for the Merseyside outfit.
It remains to be seen whether the two-time Young Premier League Player of the Year will be offered the chance to rebuild his reputation under Sean Dyche; the former Burnley boss insisting that the responsibility for kick-starting his career again rests on Alli and Alli alone.
“We spoke about his injury, how he saw it, how he saw his time on loan and what he wants to do,” Dyche told The Guardian in April, highlighting the muscle injury which kept Alli out of 14 straight Super Lig games.
“I got the sense that he wants to be back playing football and playing well. First thing first is get the injury right. You can’t do anything when you’re injured.
“As regards football, anything else is down to him. He’s 27, he’s pretty well travelled in the football world and what he has achieved at a young age. Some of it is common sense – do the right things. And you know what the right things are.”
