An annoying glitch that says ‘welcome to Instagram’ is appearing for users who aren’t new on the platform.
The error first emerged in 2022 and has reappeared again almost a year later, leaving users across the world really frustrated.

‘Welcome to Instagram’ glitch explained
Many users are receiving a pop-up message at the top of their home page that says “welcome to Instagram”.
The annoying banner appears and then disappears very quickly, but it’s showing every time people open the app or log back in.
“When you follow people, you’ll see the photos and videos they post here,” it also says at the top of the feed. “Find people to follow.”
Instagram is bizarrely acting as if people are new users when they’ve had their account for years.
On top of the error message, the site is also showing the user’s latest post at the top and it won’t disappear.
What is going on?
There’s nothing wrong with your phone or account, Instagram is simply malfunctioning due to a technical error – and it’s nothing out of the ordinary.
With more than 2.35 billion monthly active users, the site often goes down from time to time, causing certain parts of the app to glitch.
Earlier this week, many were experiencing an Instagram Dark Mode error which meant the app was making some parts white and others black.
Five possible fixes
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do. Instagram’s technical team need to fix the bug – which they’re probably doing right now.
The glitch should be fixed soon, but in the meantime, here are some things that might fix your app a bit quicker:
Try shutting down your app. On an iPhone, do this by swiping up on your homepage.
Logging out of the app and back in again could fix your Instagram.
Try deleting your app and re-downloading it again.
Head to the App Store and download any new Instagram updates.
Sometimes all you need to do is turn your phone off and on again.
